Walking with Lord Rosebery, the Queen, in navy and white, receives a salute, cheers and smiles of welcome from the Scottish womenfolk at the Scottish Veterans Garden City at Balfron Road, Penilee, today (Thursday). She was just leaving the house of Mr James Scott, war veteran. Continuing her Coronation visit to Scotland, today, in a heatwave the Queen received a real warm welcome from the crowds. The Queen is seen in a yellow tulle evening gown decorated with sprays of mimosa and gold paillette embroidery; she is wearing the blue Ribbon and Star of the Garter. These are some details of Her Majesty's diamonds shown in the portrait: the necklace is a wedding present from Nizam of Hyderabad; the tiara, also a wedding present, from Queen Mary. The bow brooch, drop earrings, bracelet and platinum wrist watch are also set in diamonds. The portrait study was taken on the small staircase in the Grand Entrance at Buckingham Palace. 26 January 1954

This afternoon H.M The Queen accommpanied by the Lord Lieutenant of Essex, Sir Francis Whitmore, paid a visit to the flooded areas of Essex. Apart from three factories at Purfleet, which were badly flooded, Her Majesty also visited some of the flooded homes in Purfleet and Tilbury. The Queen is wearing a pale pink evening gown of needlework lace over tulle, with the blue Ribbon and Star of the Garter, and with it a Russian fringe design diamond necklace (a wedding present from the City of London), diamond drop earings and two diamond bangles. The diamond drop brooch at the top of the blue Ribbon is a family heirloom and has been worn by Queen Mary. On her head is a diamond diadem, diamonds between a row of pearls. The diadem, which is of great age, was reset for Queen Victoria. This portrait was taken in the Green Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace. 27 April 1953
