The name Soerge comes from Low German and means sow. In the past, pig rearing was run here. Erected in 1974, the group of bronze figures was created by sculptor Peter Lehmann.

Between 1650 and 1750, 35 barns and sheepfolds were built away from the village for fear of destroying fire. Seven barns remaining, were restored and among others, a local museum, lodging and event location are housed.
Located on the Weser Cycle Route, the tired bikers can stay overnight in the 'Radler-Scheune', an accommodation with rustic ambience.

The 'Haus Schuetting' (on the left) was constructed according to the plans of the Antwerp builder Johann de Buschener in 1537/38 and is seat of the chamber of commerce. In 1594, the facade was redesigned in Weser Renaissance style.

Bronze sculpture was a work by artist F. Mueller-Belecke. Inaugurated in 1982, it reminds of the foundation of the monastery in 882. According to legend, the monks wanted to erect a church on that place, where the accompanied donkey would stoop first.

Inside the 'Haus Visurgis' is the Hotel Kogge with restaurant. Townhall was built as former customhouse and district court in 1624.

The 119 m long tide barrier with control station was built in 1979 and serves to protect against floodings, storm surges, and for dyke protection. At full hour, the pedestrians and cyclists can pass the double-leaf bascule bridge over the Hunte River and reach the Weser peninsula 'Elsflether Sand'.
The Hunte is a tributary of the Weser and flows into the Weser River here.
