BURGH ISLAND scan of b/print. Shepherd John Stanesby was resuming the old tradition of taking his sheep over a half mile causeway to graze on Burgh Island in Devon, which is cut off by the tide and only passable twice a day. Until John revived the use of the island pasture, sheep had not been taken over for 50 years. Used in the Observer in 1990.
